Futsal future is in their hands and... feet. The fourth day of the Umbro Futsal Awards 2011 is dedicated to the basic category of young players. After reading some press releases in the past days we would like to clarify that, since the past edition, the mentioned category is not anymore limited to Under 21 players: in this edition we have included athletes who were still 23 years old by 31/12/2011. Five great representative of our sport were in the challenge for the "1st place", looking to replace the spanish Aicardo who got the prize in 2010. Who's the best then? No need to change country, we just crossed Spain and moved from Santiago de Compostela to Barcelona. Ladies & gentlemen: clap your hands for the azulgrana crack Sergio Lozano Martinez, winner of the Best Young Player of the World category for the UMBRO Futsal Awards 2011 - 12th Edition by Futsalplanet.com!
Let's express our huge thanks to our friend and collaborator Enrique Serrano, author of the magnificent pictures you can admire in this page. Besides from being one of the best futsal photographers in the world (should we introduce an award for this category as well), Enrique is the jefe of the recognized and independent futsal portal www.golsala.com. If you want to know everything on spanish futsal, have a look at Golsala.com and you won't be disappointed!
Shining future? No, that's the present already When talking about young players you usually refer to "promises" who're still to be kept in a relatively short period. That's not the case of Sergio Lozano, nowadays a guarantee on the national stage (and not only). ERS Arganda, Las Rozas Boadilla (what a cantera!), Cartagena, Caja Segovia and Barcelona: this trayectoria shows the impressive progress of Lozano during the years. This is the aim of futsal development: taking an ilusionado child and turning him into a professional player. Lozano did it in the best way.
No fear for "el bufalo" What impress more in Sergio Lozano is his way to live a futsal game, giving the fans the idea to be born on a 40x20 pitch. The blue sea of LNFS seems to be the natural environment for "el bufalo" coming from Alcalŕ de Henares, Madrid. His past season with Caja Segovia revealed to the world (thought actually he was already well-known in Spain) a 22 (at that time) years old boy who has no fear even when facing the most important players of the world. Segovia's aficion was the ideal place for him: results were quite impressive, reaching the league final (and "risking" to conquer it!) against his Barcelona's owners. Unforgettable season.
Barcelona calling Everybody knew that the Lozano's temporada in Segovia was just set up to complete the player maturation, in order to have one more crack in the 11/12 roster. And the mission was 100% accomplished when Marc Carmona called his pupil back in Barcelona for the new season. Though missing the supercup falling to Inter Movistar in final, Lozano experienced a perfect approach to his new club, proving to be present and future of the local futbol sala.
Furia Roja January 9th 2012... one day before "turning" into the Best Young Player of the World Sergio Lozano get the greatest gift: he will play for Spain in the imminent Futsal Euro competition set to take place in Croatia. The national team head coach Venancio Lopez could not ignore the el bufalo's improvement.
We believe that's enough to declare Sergio Lozano as winner of the Best Young Player of the World category for the UMBRO Futsal Awards 2011 - 12th Edition by Futsalplanet.com!
