SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Gen-S Futsal Tournament 2012 is back for a fourth year and its grand finals will be held in Sports Planet, Ampang Jaya on May 5.
With this year’s theme “Mencari Bintang” (Search for Stars), the tournament is being held in a bid to scout for talented young footballers.
“The winners and runners-up from each district level tournament will make it into the grand finals,” said state executive councillor for youth and sports Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi (pic).
He said this at a meeting at the state secretariat on April 24 where local council representatives drew lots to determine the teams facing each other at the grand finals.
Earlier, the winning teams from the district level each won RM1,000, RM500, and RM250 for first, second, and third and fourth places respectively.
For the grand finals, winners for the male category will receive RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM2,000 for first, second, and third places respectively.
“A category for female futsal teams will also be held during the grand finals,” Dr Yunus added.
Other attractions during the finals are a friendly match between local artistes and teams from other states like Penang, Kedah and Kelantan.
The Selangor Gen-S Futsal Tournament was held to instill a sporting culture among the youth and strengthen ties within the community through healthy activities.
Open for those aged 16 to 35, each team had to pay RM100 to take part.
