The latest FIFA inspection visit in preparation for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012 concluded on Saturday, with a multitude of topics having been covered over its five-day duration.
The official draw for Thailand 2012 will take place at the St Regis Hotel in Bangkok on 24 August, when the representatives of the 24 qualified teams will travel to the Thai capital for the first time. The draw itself will commence at 2pm local time and will be broadcast on live on television. Four hours later, the international futsal friendly between Thailand and European champions Spain, in what will be a full ‘test’ event at the refurbished Nimibutr Stadium, will also be televised live.
In hosting the tournament between 1 and 18 November this year, the Thai FA has expressed a commitment to ensure that a sustainable legacy is left behind once the competition has concluded.
To achieve that goal, a development programme, as well as grassroots coaching courses for elite coaches will be organised in the two host provinces – Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima – with FIFA investing in two custom-made futsal pitches, which will be used to host a youth futsal festival for 120 teams from 120 schools.
Reflecting on the last five days and the latest preparations for the tournament, Jaime Yarza, FIFA’s Senior Manager of Futsal and Beach Soccer Competitions told FIFA.com: “We are very satisfied with the work of the LOC, as well as with the cooperation between the Local Organising Committee, the Football Association of Thailand, the Government of Thailand and the Governor of Bangkok.
"Only the strong collaboration of these entities will guarantee that the promises made to the people of Thailand - building a new hall in Bangkok and delivering an exciting FIFA Futsal World Cup - will really come true.”
