Bangkok: AFC Futsal Championship 2012 participating Thailand and Australia will play two international futsal friendly matches before leaving for Dubai to participate in the tournament starting on May 25.
The friendlies are being organised for two purposes: as the fine-tune for the Dubai events and also to promote the stadiums which will be used later in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand in November.
The first of the two friendlies will be played at the Silpa-Archa Hall of Suphanburi Province on May 18 while the second will be staged in Bangkok at Dindaeng. Both sides are expected to leave for Dubai after the friendlies.
Asean region powerhouse Thailand qualified for the tournament proper after finishing top in the Asean qualifiers with the 3-1 win over Indonesia in the final while Australia managed third place beating Vietnam 4-3 to enter the finals alongside Indonesia.
Thailand will open the campaign on May 25 against Kyrgyzstan at the Al Wasl Stadium and Australia will be in action on the same day against Qatar at the Al Shabab Stadium.
The top four finishers of the championship will be qualified to feature in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand in November.
By being the hosts, Thailand already qualified and in case Thailand finish in the top four, the fifth-ranked team will get the ticket to feature in the Futsal World Cup.
