The Futsal Federation of Indonesia (FFI) is delighted to announce the appointment of Marcos Aurelio Sorato, popularly known as Pipoca, as the new National Coach of the Indonesian Futsal Team. Pipoca has been appointed on a three-year contract, bringing his vast experience and proven track record to guide the team towards.

With a remarkable coaching career, Pipoca's achievements include being the architect behind the Serbian National Team's training during the last FIFA Futsal World Cup in Lithuania. Notably, he led the Brazil National Team to clinch the FIFA Futsal World Cup champions trophy in 2008 and 2012. His exceptional tenure with Brazil saw him in charge of 287 matches between 2005 and 2012, resulting in an impressive win percentage of 94.4%.

Pipoca's coaching experience extends beyond Brazil, as he has coached in various countries, including China, Kuwait, UAE, and Serbia over the past decade. He also briefly served as the Assistant National Coach in 2016. Furthermore, his expertise extends to coaching the Brazil National Women's Team in 2011 and 2012, showcasing his versatility and success in various aspects of the sport.

As a player, Pipoca had an illustrious career in the Spanish league, earning a reputation as one of its best players. He was honored twice as the best Pivot of the League and scored an impressive total of 446 goals during his 14-year career in Spain until 2004. Additionally, he achieved success in winning the Europe League with Playas de Castellon.

Pipoca arrives in Indonesia with a strong winning mentality and a clear focus on establishing an identity for Indonesian Futsal, fostering a culture of success. Prior to his arrival, he thoroughly observed matches from the Indonesian professional league, gaining insights into the players and preparing strategic plans for Indonesia's upcoming challenges.

The Indonesian National Team is gearing up for the AFC Asian Futsal Qualifiers – Group B, where they will compete with Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Macao. The top two teams from this group will proceed to the final qualifying round scheduled for April 2023, presenting a crucial opportunity for Indonesia to secure a spot in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan in 2024.

President of the FFI, Mr. Hary Tanoesoedibjo, expressed his enthusiasm about Pipoca's appointment, stating, "We are thrilled to have secured the services of a world-renowned coach like Marcos Sorato. This appointment underscores Futsal Indonesia's commitment to achieving our ambitions in the game."

Recognizing Indonesia's significant progress in the Asian Futsal landscape, thanks to a highly competitive professional league attracting top foreign talents like O’Magico and Ricardinho, the appointment of Pipoca is poised to elevate the team's performance to the next level.

In response to his appointment, Marcos Sorato remarked, "I am proud to have been chosen as the new National Coach of Futsal Indonesia. The quality of the players and Indonesia Futsal's strong position convinced me to take up this exciting project. I am determined to work hard and achieve the targets set by the Federation."

The public will have an opportunity to witness Pipoca's first appearance as the National Coach during the final rounds of the Indonesia Professional League, taking place on 5th and 6th August in Jakarta.
