Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted the AFC Futsal Technical Workshop 2024 in the Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur from June 10 to 14, 2024.

Spanning five days, the workshop aimed to enhance the existing AFC Futsal Coaching Course and equip Asia’s Futsal coach educators with the latest developments and best practices in the sport.

Spearheaded by AFC Deputy Technical Director Takeshi Ono, the programme saw five experts from across the Continent, convene to exchange ideas and share their knowledge to curate a robust syllabus that will make way for the establishment of the AFC Futsal Coaching Convention.

During the course of the workshop, the tutors touched upon several key topics integral to the implementation of cohesive futsal coaching programmes across the AFC’s Member Associations (MAs).

They discussed recent approaches to coach education from an international perspective to identify the key focus areas to enhance the learning experience of coaches. These included factors such as innovative teaching methodologies and the integration of technology.

By aligning the AFC Coaching Convention with these international standards, coaches across the Confederation will have the tools and knowledge at their disposal to take Asian teams to greater heights in the rapidly evolving landscape of futsal.

“The workshop is a monumental step forward for the development of futsal in Asia. The role of a coach educator is integral to the development of any sport. Hence, we must constantly be on a learning curve,” said Ono.

“In order to stand alongside the best in the world, we must provide all the resources to our MAs and to that end, we are confident that this newly devised syllabus will benefit our members immensely.

With the FIFA Futsal World Cup slated to take place in Uzbekistan later this year, followed by the inaugural edition of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup being hosted in the Philippines in 2025, the AFC Futsal Technical Workshop 2024 was yet another step forward in the Confederation’s pursuit in ensuring the success of Asian teams on the world’s biggest stages.
